Submerging the Bathysphere is an illustrative ceramics exhibit at Crimson laurel Gallery featuring Eleanor Annand and Jason Bige Burnett. These two artists have come together to investigate life at sea through illustrative ceramics. In both form and content they have combined their playful sensibility to create decorative and functional ceramic work.

Eleanor created all the illustrations within this body of work. She then scanned them in, created patterns, and we screen printed together onto newsprint paper using slip (a wet clay stained with commercial colorants). Brushing upon the image with many other colors I later applied these images to the surface of the clay. Peeling away the newsprint paper the image and all the slip is transfered onto the object. The work is pushed further with additional lines drawn into the surface, stained to add depth, glazed, decaled and finally a tad bit of luster is added. Multiple stages of surface decoration and firings are achieved for final results.
