Ceramics
My ceramic work is an investigation of clay materials through print processes. The physical interaction with clay promotes a desire to push the material through form and surface decoration. Whether it’s a handbuilt lidded container or a wheel thrown coffee mug I provide an opportunity for chance. Chance happens when I transfer imagery onto the surface of these clay objects. Using newsprint paper to transfer causes spontaneity and semi-unexpected results when it’s peeled away. The effect creates a dialogue between myself and the work until the piece is finished. The digital and screen-printed imagery I use comes from personal memories of bittersweet content mixed with adolescent undertones. Although the content might not always be direct within the work most often it’s an inspiration.
